Dr. Ann Christy is an OSU faculty member who incorporates humanitarian work into the classroom. Last year, Dr. Christy started a project for students in her Thermodynamics course (FABE 3120) designing an outdoor cooling system for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s mobile pantries. The Mid-Ohio Foodbank (M-OF) is a non-profit organization that aims to end hunger in the Mid-Ohio area through providing underprivileged families with nutritious food and resources (Mid-Ohio Food Bank).

The students, faculty and staff of the Sustainable and Resilient Community (SRC) project at the Ohio State University are working collaboratively with the citizens of Marwa, peers from the University of Dodoma as well as the project's non-government organization partners, designing and building water treatment, storage and distribution systems as part of a transformative service-learning experience. The project is called “Maji Marwa” which means “Water for Marwa” in Swahili. Marwa is a rural village located along the Pangani River in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania.

Dr. Chris Ratcliff, a Lecturer in the Department of Engineering Education with a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been busy this summer with something one probably wouldn’t expect: sustainable farming.
As the faculty advisor to OSU’s Sustainable Growing Club (GrOSU), Ratcliff has been hard at work securing the student organization’s next big thing: the revival of a student farm at Waterman Laboratory.
